On November 28, the annual Language Day was held at Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya, Balangoda (Sabaragamuva province). This year there were presented Russian, German and Chinese languages.
At the invitation of the school’s administration Russian Centre in Colombo Russian language teacher Taisia Druzhinina and Coordinator of educational programmes Veniurika Jayasinghe took part at the event. Professor Hemantha Sirisena of the University of Kelaniya also graced the occasion.
"Vidyaloka Maha Vidyalaya" is a senior secondary school in the city of Balangoda, in which the Russian language is studied in the general education system. Currently, more than 30 students study Russian here.
The representative office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Sri Lanka has traditionally supported local educational institutions involved in the teaching of the Russian language, including handing over to them the educational literature received in the framework of the federal program "Russian Language" and providing methodological support.
