On November 15, on the basis of one of the top universities in Sri Lanka, the University of Kelaniya, there was launched a series of events dedicated to the topic of studying the Russian language and improving the quality of its teaching in Sri Lanka. The Days of the Russian Language in Sri Lanka are organized by the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia with the assistance of the Russkiy Mir Foundation and the support of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office.
Among Russian universities, the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia occupies the most active position in the development of bilateral educational cooperation with Sri Lanka.
For the Days of the Russian Language and the further development of inter-university contacts, a representative delegation of the RUDN University arrived in Colombo. The delegation comprises associate professors of the Russian language department and its teaching methods Svetlana Deryabina, Svetlana Mikova, Irina Mitrofanova and is headed by the head of the department, academician of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, Honored Worker of Higher Education of the Russian Federation, member of the Council on the Russian Language under the President of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Philology, Professor Viktor Mikhailovich Shaklein.
In the framework of the “Days of the Russian Language” every day from November 15 to 25 on the premises of the University of Kelaniya and the RCSC in Colombo, there will be held seminars will for the Russian language teachers, open lessons, lectures and presentations, round tables, quizzes, photo exhibitions and exhibitions of educational and methodical literature, film screenings, discussions.
It is expected that the holding of such a large-scale event will make a positive contribution to further strengthening not only inter-university cooperation, but also the humanitarian partnership between the two countries at large, as well as create additional motivation for Sri Lankan students to learn the Russian language.
